    The noble Tripolitans founded for us

    An association for reason that kindled its beacon.

    A people whose generous hands and resolve vied with one another,

    Until they repelled the onslaught of ignorance’s armies.

    They have renewed learning’s splendor from its crumbling remains,

    And clothed glory’s fair maidens in their finery.

    بِالعلمِ أَرّختَها أَحيَت نَضارَتَها

    Clouds of bounty—record their date—in gardens of guidance;

    Through learning you dated them; they revived the gardens’ freshness.
