قَد سارَ ديمِتْري الكَريمَ مودِّعاً

قَد سارَ ديمِتْري الكَريمَ مودِّعاً

فَبَكَتهُ مِن أَسَفٍ بَنُو الشَيخاني

فَبَكَتهُ مِن أَسَفٍ بَنُو الشَيخاني

The noble Dimitri has departed, bidding farewell;

The generous Dimitri has departed

So the sons of al-Shaykhani wept for him in sorrow.

And the Shaykhani clan weep for him in sorrow

شَهمٌ عَلى التَقوى مَضَت أَيّامُهُ

شَهمٌ عَلى التَقوى مَضَت أَيّامُهُ

وَجَميلُ فعلِ الخَيرِ وَالإِحسانِ

وَجَميلُ فعلِ الخَيرِ وَالإِحسانِ

A noble-hearted man whose days passed in piety,

Valiant in piety were his days

And who was gracious in doing good and showing kindness.

Beautiful were his acts of charity and kindness

وَلَقَد ثَوى بِجِوارَكَ اللَّهُمَّ في

وَلَقَد ثَوى بِجِوارَكَ اللَّهُمَّ في

لَحدٍ سَقَتْهُ سَحائِبُ الأَجفانِ

لَحدٍ سَقَتْهُ سَحائِبُ الأَجفانِ

And indeed he has come to rest beside You, O God, in

He now rests, O Allah, in a grave

A grave watered by the clouds of weeping eyelids.

Watered by the clouds of eyelids

فَأَجِبْ دُعاءَ مُؤرِّخِيهِ وَجُدْ عَلى

فَأَجِبْ دُعاءَ مُؤرِّخِيهِ وَجُدْ عَلى

صَفَحاتِهِ بِسحائبِ الرِّضوانِ

صَفَحاتِهِ بِسحائبِ الرِّضوانِ

So answer his chroniclers' prayer, and lavish upon

So answer the prayers of his chroniclers

Its surfaces clouds of divine favor.

And grace his pages with clouds of acceptance
