لَيسَis not الوَقيعةُslander مِنof شَأنيmy way فَإِنso if عَرَضَتit arises

Slander is not my way; so if it arises,
Slander is not my way, so if it happens
I turn away from it, my face dewy with modesty.
I turn away with a face of modesty
إِنيindeed I أَضنُّam protective بِعِرضيof my honor أَنthat يُلمَّshould encroach بِهِupon it
غَيريsomeone other than me فَهَلso would أَتَولَّىI undertake خرقهtearing it بِيَديwith my hand
I hold my honor too dear for it to be assailed
I care for my honor, lest another
by another—would I then undertake to tear it with my own hand?
Should tear it - how could I do so myself?
