Praise grows sweet in lauding Abd al-Qadir

To me, yet my imagination falls short of him.

His virtues mirrored garden flowers in their beauty,

And in exquisite gentleness, like the passing breeze.

And merits were described; the fallen beads of their necklace

Were pearls gathered by the poet's reed pen.

I would give my life for the wise, perceptive writer who

Displays his artistry in wondrous, enchanting meanings.

The eye gropes in the darkness of his ink,

And the heart revels in a dazzling morning.

Beauty's sweet basil gleamed upon his pages

When they unveiled the beauty of a flourishing garden.

O you whose tenderness and grace have taken me captive,

By God, be gentle with this captive who falls short.

It was only your boundless grace that left me powerless,

And perhaps your grace will excuse me for my shortcomings.
