أَمسىcame to be النَجيبُNajib بِهَذاin this الرَمسِgrave مُحتَجِباًconcealed
عَناfrom us وَغادرand left behind ذِكراًa memory لَيسَnot يَحتَجبُbecomes concealed
Najib now lies concealed in this grave,
The noble one has hidden himself with this symbol
Away from us, and left a memory that is not concealed.
From us, yet left behind a memory that cannot be hidden
رَيّانُRayyan أَبكىmade weep بَنِيthe sons of الحِدادِal-Haddad دَمعُtears دَمٍblood
كَماjust as بَكَتwept بَعدَهُafter him الأَقلامُthe pens وَالكُتُبُand the books
Rayyan made the sons of al-Haddad weep tears of blood,
The tears of the mourners made Rayyan weep blood
Just as pens and books wept after him.
As did the pens and books after him
وَاِستَوحَشَتand grew desolate بَعدَهُafter him للعلمِfor learning أَنديةٌgatherings
كانَتwere تَرِنُّresounding بِهاin them الأَشعارُthe poems وَالخُطَبُand the orations
And after him, gatherings devoted to learning grew desolate,
The circles of knowledge felt lonely without him
Where poems and orations once resounded.
Where poems and speeches used to echo
فَصغَتso I composed بَيتاًa verse مِنof التاريخِthe chronogram قُلتُI said بِهِin it

So I composed a chronogram verse, in which I said:
So I composed a verse of history in which I said
After Najib, poetry and literature have indeed died.
After the noble one, poetry and literature died
