لَقَد بَناها الجُرَيجيريُّ أَسقُفُنا

لَقَد بَناها الجُرَيجيريُّ أَسقُفُنا

بَيتاً لِبُطرسَ تَسعى نَحوَهُ البَشَرُ

بَيتاً لِبُطرسَ تَسعى نَحوَهُ البَشَرُ

Indeed, al-Jurayjiri, our bishop, built it

As a house for Peter, toward which people hasten,

بِفَضلِ إِمدادِ لاونَ الَّذي اِشتَهَرَت

بِفَضلِ إِمدادِ لاونَ الَّذي اِشتَهَرَت

في كُلِّ أَرضٍ أَيادٍ مِنهُ تَنتَشرُ

في كُلِّ أَرضٍ أَيادٍ مِنهُ تَنتَشرُ

Thanks to the aid of Leo, whose renowned

Benefactions spread from him through every land.

فَكانَ بُطرسُ بانيها لِبُطرسَ مِن

فَكانَ بُطرسُ بانيها لِبُطرسَ مِن

كُرسيِّ بُطرسَ لِلامدادِ يدَّخرُ

كُرسيِّ بُطرسَ لِلامدادِ يدَّخرُ

Thus Peter was its builder for Peter, from

Peter’s See storing up resources for support.

لِذاكَ أَضحَت وَأَبوابُ الجَحيمِ إِلى

لِذاكَ أَضحَت وَأَبوابُ الجَحيمِ إِلى

يَومِ النَشورِ عَلَيها لَيسَ تَنتَصرُ

يَومِ النَشورِ عَلَيها لَيسَ تَنتَصرُ

Thus it stands; the gates of Hell, until

The Day of Resurrection, shall not prevail against it.

وَكَيفَ تَغلبُ أَرِّخ وَهي آمنةٌ

وَكَيفَ تَغلبُ أَرِّخ وَهي آمنةٌ

في كُلِّ مَعنىً بِها مِن بُطرسٍ أَثَرُ

في كُلِّ مَعنىً بِها مِن بُطرسٍ أَثَرُ

And how could they prevail—mark the date—when it is safe?

In every sense, it bears a trace of Peter.
