قَدindeed ناحَmourned جبريلُGabriel نحاسٍNahhas قرينَتَهُhis wife
قَد ناحَ جبريلُ نحاسٍ قرينَتَهُ
لَماwhen اِختَفىvanished فيin الثَرىthe earth زاهيradiant مُحيّاهاher countenance
لَما اِختَفى في الثَرى زاهي مُحيّاها
Gabriel Nahhas mourned his wife
when her radiant countenance vanished into the earth.
كَريمةٌKarima; noble مِنamong ذَواتِwomen possessing الطُّهرِpurity فاضلةٌvirtuous
كَريمةٌ مِن ذَواتِ الطُّهرِ فاضلةٌ
قَدindeed كانَwas مِثلlike اسمهاher name طِبقاًan exact match مُسَمّاهاher name's bearer
قَد كانَ مِثل اسمها طِبقاً مُسَمّاها
Karima, noble and virtuous, was among the pure;
her character matched her name exactly.
لَقَدindeed تَوَلَّتshe departed وَأَبقَتand she left بَعدَهاafter her لِبَنيfor the children of
لَقَد تَوَلَّت وَأَبقَت بَعدَها لِبَني
خلاّطَKhallat صيِّبُa downpour دَمعٍof tears بَلَّdrenched مَثواهاher resting place
خلاّطَ صيِّبُ دَمعٍ بَلَّ مَثواها
She departed, leaving behind for the children of
Khallat a downpour of tears that drenched her resting place.
فَقالَso it said تاريُخناour chronogram كُفْواًcease mourning فَقيدتُكُمyour departed loved one
فَقالَ تاريُخنا كُفْواً فَقيدتُكُم
كَريمةٌnoble فيin الأَعاليthe heights عِندَwith مَولاهاher Lord
كَريمةٌ في الأَعالي عِندَ مَولاها
So our chronogram said: 'Cease mourning; your departed one
is noble on high, with her Lord.'
