لغنطوسَfor Ghantous الكَريمَthe noble مَقَرُّan abode عَفوٍpardon
لغنطوسَ الكَريمَ مَقَرُّ عَفوٍ
لَهُfor him الرحمنُthe All-Merciful بِالرِّضوانِwith divine favor عَمّاsuffused
لَهُ الرحمنُ بِالرِّضوانِ عَمّا
For noble Ghantous there is an abode of pardon,
Which the All-Merciful has suffused with His favor for him.
مَضىhe departed لِنَعيمِto the bliss خالِقِهِof his Creator وَأَبقىand left behind
مَضى لِنَعيمِ خالِقِهِ وَأَبقى
لآلِfor the family of القَشعَمِيِّal-Qash‘ami أَسىًsorrow وَغَمّاand grief
لآلِ القَشعَمِيِّ أَسىً وَغَمّا
He departed to his Creator’s bliss and left behind
Sorrow and grief for the family of al-Qash‘ami.
فَتىًa young man قَدindeed كانَhe was فيamid الغَمراتِordeals رُكناًa pillar
فَتىً قَد كانَ في الغَمراتِ رُكناً
وَلِلأَيتامِand for the orphans كانَhe was أَباًa father وَأُمّاand a mother
وَلِلأَيتامِ كانَ أَباً وَأُمّا
A young man who was indeed a pillar amid ordeals,
And to orphans he was a father and a mother.
قَدindeed اِبتَدَأَتbegan أَوائِلُهُhis beginnings بِخَيرٍwith goodness
قَد اِبتَدَأَت أَوائِلُهُ بِخَيرٍ
وَنالَand he attained مُؤرّخاًdated in a chronogram بِالخَيرِwith goodness ختماan ending
وَنالَ مُؤرّخاً بِالخَيرِ ختما
His early life began with goodness,
And he attained a good ending, recorded in a chronogram.
