رَمسٌ لِفارسَ لَحُّودَ الكَريمَ ثَوى

رَمسٌ لِفارسَ لَحُّودَ الكَريمَ ثَوى

فيهِ التُقى وَسَقاهُ الجودُ مَدمَعَهُ

فيهِ التُقى وَسَقاهُ الجودُ مَدمَعَهُ

A tomb for generous Faris Lahoud; there lay at rest

A portrait of a noble, generous knight who passed away

within it piety, and generosity watered it with its tears.

In him was piety, and generosity watered his tears

شَهمٌ بَكَتهُ العُلى وَالمُكرماتُ كَما

شَهمٌ بَكَتهُ العُلى وَالمُكرماتُ كَما

بَكى لَهُ عافٍ ذاقَ مَصرَعَهُ

بَكى لَهُ عافٍ ذاقَ مَصرَعَهُ

A noble-hearted man: glory and noble deeds wept for him, just as

A valiant man whose high status and kindness weep for him

a seeker of bounty wept for him, tasting the bitterness of his death.

Just as a loyal friend wept when he met his fate

قَد أَجمَلَ السَعيَ في الدُنيا بسيرَتِهِ

قَد أَجمَلَ السَعيَ في الدُنيا بسيرَتِهِ

فَأَجمَلَ اللَهُ في الدارينِ مَرجِعَهُ

فَأَجمَلَ اللَهُ في الدارينِ مَرجِعَهُ

He made his striving in this world beautiful through his conduct;

He beautified his worldly endeavors with his conduct

so may God make his return beautiful in both abodes.

So God beautified his final destinations

ظَلَّتْ لَهُ رَحمةُ المَولى مُؤرِّخةً

ظَلَّتْ لَهُ رَحمةُ المَولى مُؤرِّخةً

وَنَوَّرتْ بِجَميلِ الصَّفحِ مَضجَعَهُ

وَنَوَّرتْ بِجَميلِ الصَّفحِ مَضجَعَهُ

May the Lord’s mercy remain with him, marking the date,

The mercy of God remained recorded for him

and illuminate his resting place with gracious pardon.

And the light of forgiveness illuminated his grave
