Sol 6.1

  1. أرائعة المشيب لقد أرعتي

    فؤادي إذ نعيتي لي شبابي

    O terror of gray hair, you have indeed frightened

    my heart when you announced my youth's death to me.

  2. فكل العيش أصبح منك رنقا

    وكل العمر أضحى فى انتهاب

    So all of life has become clouded because of you,

    and the whole span of life has fallen prey to plunder.

  3. وان لسان حالك قد تغنى

    مشيرا لى بحى على الذهاب

    And the tongue of your condition has indeed sung,

    beckoning me with the call, 'Hasten to depart!'

  4. فيا ظل الشباب عليك منى

    سلام من فؤاد ذى انتحاب

    So, O shade of youth, I send you

    a salutation from a sobbing heart.

  5. وياضيف المشيب سبقت وقتا

    به لو جئت كنت على صواب

    And, O guest of gray hair, you arrived before the time

    when, had you come, you would have been in the right.

  6. فكيف أتيتنى ياضيف شيبى

    وسنى دون مقدار النصاب

    So how have you come to me, O guest of my gray hair,

    while my age falls short of the requisite threshold?

  7. فلولا شيمتى اكرام ضيفى

    لسودنا وجيهك بالخضاب

    But were it not in my nature to honor my guest,

    we would surely have blackened your little face with dye.
