Indeed, my companions have wearied of my weeping and my sighing.

And can a lovesick lover remain steadfast?

And the heartache and yearning within me were heightened

By the ringing song of doves warbling mournfully.

Then the doves of the grove sang around me and trilled,

And so they grieved a heart accustomed to sorrows.

I stood there weeping, and my tears dripped,

Mingled with blood that furrowed my cheeks.

Over the loss of her who brought a wound to my heart,

With a sword of glances drawn for combat.

Ask her about the wounded heart and its sorrow,

And a night squandered on attentions to fair women.
