I loved a young gazelle who possessed beauty in its entirety.

Rasha has attained all beauty

His countenance surpassed the rosy glow of dawn.

With a brilliance beyond the dawn's glow

تحير فيه الواصفون لحسنه

تحير فيه الواصفون لحسنه

وقالوا عجزنا عنه بالفكر والذكر

وقالوا عجزنا عنه بالفكر والذكر

Those describing him were bewildered by his beauty,

Those who describe his beauty are perplexed

And said, 'We cannot do him justice in thought or word.'

And say they cannot fathom him in thought or speech

فقلت لهم هذا الذي صح أنه

فقلت لهم هذا الذي صح أنه

كما شاعت الأخبار في البر والبحر

كما شاعت الأخبار في البر والبحر

So I said to them, 'This is he of whom it is certain that—

So I said to them this is the one of whom

As reports have spread over land and sea—

Rumors have spread over land and sea

تراءى ومرآة الزمان صقيلة

تراءى ومرآة الزمان صقيلة

فآثر فيها وجهه صورة البدر

فآثر فيها وجهه صورة البدر

He appeared while the mirror of time was polished,

He appeared when time's mirror was polished

So his face chose within it the likeness of the full moon.'

And chose to leave his face's image there, like the full moon
