And a moist day, its sky dove-gray,

    Almost flowing with lush freshness—

I delighted in it, my drinking companion a man of letters,

Dignified in his drinking of wine.

We spent its morning and noon drinking,

And went on past afternoon and the waning day,

Beside a garden, lush with growth, resplendent

With flowers that had grown wide and tall.

The river's bracelet circles round it at times,

As one dear friend embraces another.

And our cupbearer, sweet in his coyness, captivates

Whenever he turns his kohl-dark gaze to and fro.
