أيُّها السائلُ قَد بَيَّن

أيُّها السائلُ قَد بَيَّن

تُ عن كنتَ ذكيّا

تُ عن كنتَ ذكيّا

O questioner, I have made it clear—

[If] you are discerning.

أحمدُ اللَه كثيراً

أحمدُ اللَه كثيراً

بأياديه عَلَيَّا

بأياديه عَلَيَّا

I praise God abundantly

for His favors bestowed upon me,

شاهداً أن لا إلهَ

شاهداً أن لا إلهَ

غيره ما دمتُ حيَّا

غيره ما دمتُ حيَّا

bearing witness that there is no god

other than Him, as long as I live,

وعلى أحمدَ بالصِّد

وعلى أحمدَ بالصِّد

قِ رَسُولاً ونبيّا

قِ رَسُولاً ونبيّا

and that Ahmad is, in truth,

a messenger and a prophet.

ومَنحتُ الودَّ قُربا

ومَنحتُ الودَّ قُربا

هُ وواليتُ الوَصِيّا

هُ وواليتُ الوَصِيّا

And I bestowed affection on his kin,

and gave my allegiance to the legatee.

وأتاني خَبَرٌ مُط

وأتاني خَبَرٌ مُط

طرحٌ لم يَكُ شيَّا

طرحٌ لم يَكُ شيَّا

And a report reached me, cast

aside, amounting to nothing:

أن على غيرَ اجتماعٍ

أن على غيرَ اجتماعٍ

عَقَدُوا الأمرَ بَديّا

عَقَدُوا الأمرَ بَديّا

that, without agreement,

they settled the matter at the outset.

فوقفتُ القومَ تيماً

فوقفتُ القومَ تيماً

وعدياً وأميّا

وعدياً وأميّا

So I withheld judgment on the people—Taym,

and Adi, and Umayya—

غيرَ شتامٍ ولكني

غيرَ شتامٍ ولكني

توليت عليَّا

توليت عليَّا

without reviling; but I

gave my allegiance to Ali.
