Fear God and thank Him for the blessings He has bestowed.
And fear God, and thank Him for what He has bestowed.
Seize your lifetime, deluded one, before it is cut short.

Beware, beware your tongue; restrain it—keep it tightly closed.
And beware, beware of your tongue; restrain it, hold it in, hold it tight.
From it comes evil; I think no one is safe from it,
Evil comes from it; I do not think anyone escapes it,

Nothing but it casts created beings into Hell.
Nothing but it casts people headlong into Hell.

Concern him; as for what concerns you, seek it and hold fast.
concern him; seek what concerns you, and hold fast to it.

Satiety even from lawful food is the root of evil and blame.
And fullness from lawful food is the chief source of evil and blame.
This is so when it is lawful—what then of the forbidden?
This is when it comes from a lawful source—what, then, of the forbidden?

Piety has grown scarce in it, and discernment has nearly vanished.
Piety has grown scarce in it, and truthfulness has almost vanished.

And close these words: may God bless Ahmad and grant him peace,
As long as a star journeys, or a cameleer chants, and the darkness grows black.
as long as a star travels by night, or a camel-driver chants, and the dark of night deepens.
