سلام على أهل الظنون الجميلة

وأهل الصفا أهل القلوب السليمة

وأهل الصفا أهل القلوب السليمة

Peace upon those who hold kindly opinions,

Peace be upon the people of beautiful thoughts,

And those of purity, those of sound hearts.

And the people of purity, people of sound hearts.

أهيل الوفا الغافرين لمن هفا

أهيل الوفا الغافرين لمن هفا

يراعون آداب الاخا والمحبة

يراعون آداب الاخا والمحبة

Dear folk of fidelity, who forgive whoever stumbles,

People of loyalty who forgive those who wronged them,

They observe the courtesies of brotherhood and love.

Who observe the ethics of brotherhood and love.

فطوبى لعبد سار نحوا لسيرهم

فطوبى لعبد سار نحوا لسيرهم

وشابههم لو كان في بعض سيرة

وشابههم لو كان في بعض سيرة

So blessed is a servant who follows a path like theirs,

So blessed is the servant who walks in their path,

And resembles them, even if only in part of his conduct.

And emulates them, even if only in some ways.

هم القوم لا يشقى جليسهم بهم

هم القوم لا يشقى جليسهم بهم

محبهم ينجو بهم في القيامة

محبهم ينجو بهم في القيامة

They are the people whose companion is never wretched in their company;

They are the people whose company brings no misery,

Whoever loves them is saved through them at the Resurrection.

Their love saves one on Judgment Day.

بحقهم يار بناهب لنا الذي

بحقهم يار بناهب لنا الذي

وهبت لهم من محض فضل ومنة

وهبت لهم من محض فضل ومنة

For their sake, O our Lord, grant us what

For their sake, O Lord, bless us with what

You bestowed on them from pure bounty and grace.

You have granted them of sheer grace and favor.

فأنا إليك راغبون وإننا

فأنا إليك راغبون وإننا

لنرجوك يا معطي العطايا الجزيلة

لنرجوك يا معطي العطايا الجزيلة

For we long for You, and indeed we

To You we incline, hopeful that You,

Hope in You, O Giver of abundant gifts.

O Giver of abundant gifts, will favor us.

فمن ذالنا يا ربنا في أمورنا

فمن ذالنا يا ربنا في أمورنا

سواك ولا أركن بحولي وقوتي

سواك ولا أركن بحولي وقوتي

For who is there for us, O our Lord, in our affairs,

If we faltered, our Lord, in our affairs,

But You? I do not rely on my own power and strength.

None can aid us but You; I trust not my might nor power.

تبرأت من حولي وكسبي وقوتي

تبرأت من حولي وكسبي وقوتي

ومن أن أنل خيرا بفعلي وحيلتي

ومن أن أنل خيرا بفعلي وحيلتي

I renounce reliance on my power, my own efforts, and my strength,

I disavow my own might, gains and power,

And on gaining good through my deeds and ingenuity.

That I should gain any good through my deeds or schemes.

إلهي مليكي خالقي لاتحيلني

إلهي مليكي خالقي لاتحيلني

إلى نفسي أو غير أصب كل محنة

إلى نفسي أو غير أصب كل محنة

My God, my Sovereign, my Creator, do not consign me

My God, my King, my Creator, do not leave me

To myself or another, lest every affliction befall me.

To myself or others, may every tribulation pass me by.

فكن لي إلهي في أموري جميعها

فكن لي إلهي في أموري جميعها

وفي الدين والدنيا وفي كل حالة

وفي الدين والدنيا وفي كل حالة

So be my help, my God, in all my affairs,

So be for me, my God, in all my affairs,

In religion and worldly life, and in every state.

In religion, worldly matters, and in every state.

ووفق وسدد واصلح الكل واهدناه

ووفق وسدد واصلح الكل واهدناه

وأختم لنا بالخير عند المنية

وأختم لنا بالخير عند المنية

And grant success and right direction, set everything right, and guide us to it,

Grant me success, guide and rectify all, lead us,

And give us a good ending when death comes.

And conclude for us with goodness when death comes.

وعم أصولا والفروع الناصح الذي

وعم أصولا والفروع الناصح الذي

يسمى بعبدالله بن سلامة

يسمى بعبدالله بن سلامة

And encompass the roots and branches of the sincere adviser who

These verses were composed by the advisor

Is called ʿAbd Allāh ibn Salāmah.

Named Abdullah bin Salamah.

أتت منه أبيات بها يطلب الدعا

أتت منه أبيات بها يطلب الدعا

ويحكي ويشكي من ذنوب كثيرة

ويحكي ويشكي من ذنوب كثيرة

Verses came from him in which he asks for supplication,

He came with verses petitioning for prayer

And he recounts and laments his many sins.

And telling of, complaining of many sins.

فنطلب مولانا لنا وله بان

فنطلب مولانا لنا وله بان

يمن علينا ذو الجلال بتوبة

يمن علينا ذو الجلال بتوبة

So we ask our Master, for ourselves and for him, that

So we ask our Master for him and us

The Possessor of Majesty favor us with repentance.

That the Owner of Majesty grant us repentance.

بها ننمحى عنا الذنوب جميعها

بها ننمحى عنا الذنوب جميعها

ونعلو بها في كل حال علية

ونعلو بها في كل حال علية

Through it all sins are erased from us,

With it we may erase all sins,

And through it we ascend to every lofty state.

And with it rise above in every state.

ونكسي بها الخيرات والبر والرضا

ونكسي بها الخيرات والبر والرضا

ونحمي بها من كل هول وفتنة

ونحمي بها من كل هول وفتنة

And through it we are clothed in blessings, righteousness, and contentment,

With it we don be all good, righteousness and grace,

And through it we are protected from every terror and trial.

And with it protect ourselves from every fear and tribulation.

بها ننمحى عنا الذنوب جميعها

بها ننمحى عنا الذنوب جميعها

ونعلو بها في كل حال علية

ونعلو بها في كل حال علية

Through it all sins are erased from us,

بها تنجلي عنا الكدورات كلها

بها تنجلي عنا الكدورات كلها

بها ترتفع منا جميع القساوة

بها ترتفع منا جميع القساوة

Through it all murkiness is cleared from us,

With it all turbidity is lifted from us,

Through it all hardness of heart is lifted from us.

With it all hardness is lifted from us.

بها يصلح القلب الذي إن صلح صلح

بها يصلح القلب الذي إن صلح صلح

به سائر الأشياء من كل خصلة

به سائر الأشياء من كل خصلة

Through it the heart is made sound; if it is sound, so too are

With it the heart that, if rectified, rectifies

All other things through it, every character trait.

All other things of every trait, is rectified.

عليك باصلاح الفؤاد وحفظه

عليك باصلاح الفؤاد وحفظه

من المفسدات من ذنوب وغفلة

من المفسدات من ذنوب وغفلة

Take care to reform the heart and protect it

You must rectify the heart and guard it

From corrupting things: sins and heedlessness.

From corruptions, sins and heedlessness.

وكن عامر القلب بالخير والتقى

وكن عامر القلب بالخير والتقى

وبالذكر والفكر الصحيح المثبت

وبالذكر والفكر الصحيح المثبت

And let your heart be filled with goodness and piety,

And make the heart full of good, piety

And with remembrance and sound, well-grounded reflection,

And remembrance, sound understanding and conviction.

وبالصمت عن كل الفضول جميعه

وبالصمت عن كل الفضول جميعه

وكن قائلا خيرا وإلا فاصمت

وكن قائلا خيرا وإلا فاصمت

And by keeping silent, avoiding all idle talk, every bit of it.

And be silent of all superfluities,

And speak what is good; otherwise remain silent.

Speaking only good, otherwise be silent.

ولازم لذكرالله في كل حالة

ولازم لذكرالله في كل حالة

وواظب عليه كل حين ولحظة

وواظب عليه كل حين ولحظة

And persist in remembering God in every state,

And be constant in God’s remembrance at all times,

And persevere in it at every time and moment.

Persevere upon it at every instant and moment.

وكن شاكرا الله قلبا وقالبا

وكن شاكرا الله قلبا وقالبا

لتحظى من المولى بنيل الزيادة

لتحظى من المولى بنيل الزيادة

And be thankful to God in heart and body,

And be thankful to God inwardly and outwardly,

So you may obtain increase from the Master.

So you may attain the Lord’s increase.

وكن طالب للعلم واعمل به تنل

وكن طالب للعلم واعمل به تنل

من الله توفيقا لسيل الهداية

من الله توفيقا لسيل الهداية

And seek knowledge and act upon it; you will gain

And seek knowledge and act by it, so you may

From God, enabling grace for the stream of guidance.

Attain God’s success in reaching guidance.

كذا كل خير لا تكن عنه عاجزا

كذا كل خير لا تكن عنه عاجزا

فبالجد نيلت كل حال رفيعة

فبالجد نيلت كل حال رفيعة

Likewise, do not falter in pursuing any good;

Thus for every good, do not fail to attain it,

For through diligence every lofty state has been attained.

For through striving every lofty state is attained.

إلهي تفضل بالمطالب كلها

إلهي تفضل بالمطالب كلها

علينا وزدنا منك أعلى عطية

علينا وزدنا منك أعلى عطية

My God, graciously grant all that we ask

My God, bestow upon us all that we asked,

To us, and add for us from Yourself the loftiest gift.

And increase Your highest gift upon us.

وأصلح فؤادا أنت أعلم بدائه

وأصلح فؤادا أنت أعلم بدائه

وأمراضه يا عالما بالسريرة

وأمراضه يا عالما بالسريرة

And set right a heart, for You know best its ailment

And rectify the heart, You know best its ills

And its diseases, O Knower of the inward self.

And diseases, O Knower of the unseen.

بجاه النبي المصطفى الهادي الذي

بجاه النبي المصطفى الهادي الذي

به نرتجي تقضى لنا كل حاجة

به نرتجي تقضى لنا كل حاجة

By the standing of the chosen Prophet, the guide,

For the sake of the chosen Prophet, the guide

Through whom we hope every need of ours will be fulfilled.

Through whom we hope You fulfill every need.

عليه صلاة الله ثم سلامه

وأنصاره مع آله والصحابة

وأنصاره مع آله والصحابة

Upon him be God's blessing, then His peace,

Blessings of God upon him, then peace,

And upon his supporters, along with his family and the Companions.

And his supporters, his family and companions.

وبالحمدلله الكريم ختامها

وبالحمدلله الكريم ختامها

لك الحمد يا رب على كل نعمة

لك الحمد يا رب على كل نعمة

And its close is praise to God, the Generous.

And with praise to God, the Generous, its conclusion,

To You belongs praise, O Lord, for every blessing.
