واكتساب الدين طبعا للقلوب

Our lifetimes were wasted in earning sins,

Our lives were lost in gaining sins

And acquiring religion as an imprint upon hearts.

And to gain religion is imprinted in hearts

واحتوينا للمساوى والعيوب

واحتوينا للمساوى والعيوب

وعصينا الله علام الغيوب

وعصينا الله علام الغيوب

And we have encompassed vices and faults,

Yet we contained equality and faults

And disobeyed God, the All-Knower of unseen things.

And disobeyed God, the All-Knowing of the unseen

كم حوينا من مثالب وعيوب ومعايب

كم حوينا من مثالب وعيوب ومعايب

ومصايب ومعاطب

ومصايب ومعاطب

How many failings, faults, and blemishes we have amassed,

How much we contained of flaws, faults, defects

And calamities and perils!

And disasters, tribulations

هل ترانا بعد هذا سنتوب

هل ترانا بعد هذا سنتوب

أوترانا بعد هذا نؤب

أوترانا بعد هذا نؤب

Do you think we shall repent after this?

Do you think after this we will repent

Or do you think we shall return after this?

Or after this we will turn in penitence
