O you who abandon obligatory prayer, how sinful this is!

Have you not heard what came from the dispeller of gloom,

Of the stern warning that shatters bones?

From the moment of his death, he faces dreadful ordeals.

How many traditions speak of his unbelief, and how many an imam

Has acted on them and declared him an unbeliever among humankind,

Making no distinctions and heeding no speaker's words.

And it is reported that he has neither covenant nor protection,

Pray it with the congregation, in light and darkness.

Be present for the opening takbir with the imam,

Declaring 'God is greatest' immediately after him, always keeping the practice.

For therein lie many great secrets:

Among them, deliverance from the fires—that is the goal—

And from hypocrisy, which noble people have feared.

The text conveys this; it is no saying of the rabble.

And Bahraq said, on the etiquette of earning one's food:

Missing it does not anger you while your worldly affairs are intact.

And whoever has professed the faith, then prayed and fasted,

And paid alms on his wealth and made pilgrimage to the House—the last,

The fifth of his religion's pillars—and shunned the forbidden,

Give him glad tidings in this world and on the Day of Rising.

Guard your tongue well; rein it in with a bridle,

Indeed, the tongue is what brings these mortals to ruin.

So be sparing with your words, taking the greatest care,

If you believe and fear the punishing blow and retribution.

Keep apart from people; you will gain deliverance and peace.

Flee from them as you flee from grievous illness,

Except for good that concerns you, or for the public welfare.

Any meeting beyond that serves only to earn reproach.

If you cannot, then always withhold harm from them.

A just ruler is required; through him order is secured.

The affairs of this religion and the world are thus set right.

God and the Chosen One—the full moon—commanded it.

Contrary to the guidance of the Prophet's noble Companions.

He shows off before people, seeking a goal that cannot be attained.

And let those in charge and the ignorant soldiers hear them.

And they will repent truly, with no break in their repentance.

We may attain our wish in this world and on the Day of Crowding.

We ask You for Your bounty, Your forgiveness, and a good end,

And pardon and well-being, in every state or station.

Then blessings upon the Guide, and the purest peace,

And upon his family and Companions, as many as the clouds' raindrops.
