يا طالبا جنة الدنيا وراحتها

يا طالبا جنة الدنيا وراحتها

فاسمع وأنصت لاخباري وأقوالي

فاسمع وأنصت لاخباري وأقوالي

O seeker of this world's paradise and its repose,

O seeker of the paradise of this world and its comfort

listen and give heed to my tidings and my words

Listen and pay attention to my news and my words

على الرضا بقضاء الله خالقنا

على الرضا بقضاء الله خالقنا

في كل من كان من مر ومن حالي

في كل من كان من مر ومن حالي

about contentment with the decree of God, our Creator,

On being content with the decree of Allah, our Creator

in all that comes, bitter or sweet.

In everyone who was from the past and the present

فلا ترد غير ما المولى أراد ولا

فلا ترد غير ما المولى أراد ولا

تسخط لشيء قضاه المالك الوالي

تسخط لشيء قضاه المالك الوالي

So desire nothing but what the Lord has willed, and do not

So do not refuse anything but what the Master wanted, nor

resent anything decreed by the Sovereign, the Ruler.

Be angry at anything his decree, the Exalted King

فإنما أنت عبدوالإله لنا

فإنما أنت عبدوالإله لنا

رب ومالك للحال والمال

رب ومالك للحال والمال

For you are only a servant, while God is for us

You are only a servant, and Allah is our

a Lord and Master of circumstance and wealth.

Lord and Owner of the state and wealth

فالزم لطاته واشكر لنعمته

فالزم لطاته واشكر لنعمته

واصبر لنقمته في حال أو مال

واصبر لنقمته في حال أو مال

So keep to obedience to Him and give thanks for His blessing,

So stick to His grace, and thank Him for His bounty

and patiently endure His chastisement, in circumstance or wealth.

And be patient with His vengeance, whether in ease or hardship

وأحسن الظن بالمولى يكون كما

وأحسن الظن بالمولى يكون كما

ظننت فاسمع حديثا مسندا عالي

ظننت فاسمع حديثا مسندا عالي

And think well of the Lord; He will be as

And think good thoughts of the Master, it will be as

you thought; hear a hadith with a lofty chain of transmission.

You thought, so listen to an eminent hadith

واحذر وإياك انكارا على ملك

واحذر وإياك انكارا على ملك

في ملكه فعله عدل على عالي

في ملكه فعله عدل على عالي

And beware—take care not to object to a King

And beware, beware of denying the King

in His kingdom; His action is justice [closing phrase unclear].

His kingdom, His just deed on the Sublime

وطهر القلب من غير الإله ولا

وطهر القلب من غير الإله ولا

تبق سوى الله في سرو في بالي

تبق سوى الله في سرو في بالي

And cleanse the heart of all but God, and do not

And purify the heart from other than Allah and do not

leave anything save God in the inward self and in my mind.

Leave anything but Allah in secret or in my mind

ولازم الذكر لله الكريم ولا

ولازم الذكر لله الكريم ولا

تدخل مع الناس في قيل وفي قال

تدخل مع الناس في قيل وفي قال

And persist in remembrance of God, the Generous, and do not

And adhere to the mention of the Bountiful Allah and do not

join people in 'it was said' and 'he said.'

Enter with the people in saying and words

فالأنس بالناس إفلاس وآخره

فالأنس بالناس إفلاس وآخره

كرب فكن لهم يا صاحبي قالي

كرب فكن لهم يا صاحبي قالي

For finding comfort in people is bankruptcy, and its end

For the intimacy with people is bankruptcy, and its end

is anguish; so be averse to them, my companion.

Is distress, so my friend, be aloof from them

والذكر لله باق لانفاد له

والذكر لله باق لانفاد له

فاعكف عليه بابكار وآصال

فاعكف عليه بابكار وآصال

And remembrance of God endures; it is inexhaustible.

And the mention of Allah remains endless

So devote yourself to it in the early mornings and evenings.

So devote yourself to it openly and in private

واطلب من الله ما تحتاج منه ولا

واطلب من الله ما تحتاج منه ولا

تسأل سوى الله جل الحافظ الكالي

تسأل سوى الله جل الحافظ الكالي

And seek from God what you need from Him, and do not

And seek from Allah what you need from Him and do not

ask anyone but God—exalted is He—the Protector, the Guardian.

Ask anyone other than Allah, Majestic, All-Sustaining

وكن حليف التقى والعلم فاعن به

وكن حليف التقى والعلم فاعن به

والعلم بوباخلاص وأعمال

والعلم بوباخلاص وأعمال

And be an ally of piety, and give knowledge your attention,

And be an ally of piety and knowledge, so help through it

and knowledge [unclear wording], with sincerity and deeds.

And know, with sincerity and deeds

واحذر وإياك من دنيا تزول ولا

واحذر وإياك من دنيا تزول ولا

تبقى بحال وتدهوك بأهوال

تبقى بحال وتدهوك بأهوال

And beware—take care—of a world that passes away and does not

And beware, beware of a vanishing world, it will not

last in any state, and overwhelms you with terrors,

Remain in any state, and it will shock you with terrors

وتحجبنك عن دار النعيم وعن

وتحجبنك عن دار النعيم وعن

كل جمال وإحسان وأفصال

كل جمال وإحسان وأفصال

and surely bars you from the abode of bliss and from

And veil you from the Abode of Bliss and from

all beauty, kindness, and favors.

All beauty and benevolence and separation

يا رب ياحي يا قيوم ياصمد

يا رب ياحي يا قيوم ياصمد

وفق وسدد وكن لي عند ترحالي

وفق وسدد وكن لي عند ترحالي

O Lord, O Ever-Living, O All-Sustaining, O Eternal Refuge,

O Lord, O Living, O Self-Subsisting, O Eternal

grant me success and guide me aright, and be there for me when I depart.

Facilitate and guide right and be for me at my passage

وصل ربي وسلم دائماً أبدا

وصل ربي وسلم دائماً أبدا

على النبي المخفف كل أثقال

على النبي المخفف كل أثقال

And, my Lord, send blessings and peace, always and forever,

And bless, my Lord, and greet everlastingly

upon the Prophet who lightens every burden,

The relieved Prophet from all burdens

والآل والصحب ثم التابعين لهم

والآل والصحب ثم التابعين لهم

على الخلائق ماضيهم مع التالي

على الخلائق ماضيهم مع التالي

and his family and companions, then those who follow them,

And his Family and Companions, then those who followed them

upon all creatures, those gone before together with those who follow.

Upon all creatures, their past and future
