O seeker of counsel, may God guide you; take these words from me.

I have experienced the times, so listen to what I say, and peace.

I have seen people, in their customs, like grazing livestock.

They are their religion, their concern, and, to them, all they desire.

Whoever masters the customs, they say, 'This one has reached the highest station,'

Even if he neglects religious duty and even if he engages in the forbidden.

And whoever opposes them, they accuse of shameful deeds and grave sins.

So leave them—leave them; keep apart from them and always turn away.

And follow the pure white path—a sun with no haze.

An upright, monotheistic faith, manifest and clear, guiding humankind

To repose and comfort in this world and in the Abode of Peace.

And to intimacy, mysteries, and lights—there is no darkness in it.

There is no hardship in it, no burden, and no grief.

Easy for its wayfarer: the law of our master, the musk-sweet culmination,

Ahmad, God's Messenger, seal of the prophets, the moon at its fullest.

He whose character was the Qur'an itself—so listen, young man.

And read his sayings; you will find them pearls, perfectly strung.

And consider his qualities, in which lies healing for sickness.

From him the Companions received it—what excellent, noble masters!

And his family, his wives, and his supporters took from him in full.

They followed it faithfully, making it their food and relish.

They neither strayed nor flinched, nor listened to rebuke or blame.

They gave their wealth and lives for it, exposing their souls to death.

They championed the sacred law with hearts, tongue, and sword.

Then others learned from them, followed their way, and stood firm—

Their followers in goodness, until the Day of Resurrection.

So read their biographies and make them your guide and reins.

And know that the faith diminishes each year after Taha.

And after the Companions, the bonds of faith began to unravel.

So seek refuge in the Lord and say: O God, may the end be good.

O God, grant me a good ending when the hour of departure comes.

O God, grant it; O God, grant it, for the sake of those who prayed and fasted.

And in closing, may God bless Ahmad as long as birds coo and wheel.

And his family and Companions, with the purest greetings and peace.
