يا هاشم بن شيخ بن هاشم

وصل كتابك نعم ذاك الكتاب

O Hashim, son of Shaykh, son of Hashim,

Your letter has arrived—what an excellent letter!

فنسأل الرحمن من فضله

يوفق الكل سبيل الصواب

So we ask the Most Merciful, out of His bounty,

to grant everyone success on the path of right,

ويرشد الكل لما يرتضي

منا ويرزقنا بغير حساب

and to guide everyone to what He finds pleasing

from us, and to provide for us without reckoning,

فلا نرى بؤسا ولا محنة

في يومنا هذا ويوم المآب

so that we see neither misery nor affliction

on this day of ours and on the Day of Return.

يا رب يا رحمن يا ربنا

نسألك تهدينا لحسن المتاب

O Lord, O Most Merciful, O our Lord,

we ask You to guide us to worthy repentance.

فقد كثر يا ربنا ذنبنا

وقد تعرضنا به للعقاب

For our sin has increased, O our Lord,

and through it we have exposed ourselves to punishment.

وما لنا منجى سوى عفوكم

فمن به يا من له العفو داب

And we have no escape but Your pardon.

So bestow it, O You whose constant way is pardon.

واهدنا نسلك سبيل الهدى

سبيل طه ذي الدعاء المجاب

And guide us, that we may tread the path of guidance,

the path of Taha, whose supplication is answered.

عليه صلى الله في كل حين

وما حدا أحاديث الركاب

May God bless him at every moment,

and as long as tales of the camel caravans are chanted.
