1. صلة الأرحام بالعلم الذي

    ينفع الأرحام في يوم القيام

    Honoring ties of kinship through knowledge that

    benefits one's kin on the Day of Resurrection

  2. صلة ما مثلها من صلة

    يسكن الشخص بها دار السلام

    is a bond like no other bond;

    through it, a person dwells in the Abode of Peace.

  3. وبها يعرف ما ينفعه

    ويقيه كل محظور حرام

    Through it, he knows what benefits him,

    and it protects him from every forbidden, unlawful thing.

  4. فازمن أصغي إليه سمعه

    واتبع للنصح من ذاك الأمام

    Successful is whoever lends his ear to it

    and heeds the counsel of that guide.

  5. ربنا بلهمه للسعدا

    ودعاة الخلق سادات الأنام

    Our Lord inspires it in the fortunate

    and in the guides of creation, the masters of humankind.

  6. والجفاة الاشقيا تحرمه

    تركوا النور ومالوا للظلام

    The uncouth and wretched are denied it;

    they abandoned the light and turned toward darkness.

  7. إنما العلم جليس مؤنس

    وخليل في مسير ومقام

    Knowledge is indeed a comforting companion,

    and a close friend in travel and at rest,

  8. ورفيق بك رفيق مشفق

    نافع من غير أجر أو طعام

    and a companion, gentle and caring toward you,

    helpful without wages or food,

  9. ودليل وخفير حارس

    يحفظ العهد ويرعى للذمام

    and a guide, a protector, a guardian;

    it keeps its pledge and honors bonds of trust.

  10. وهو ظل وهو نور وهدى

    وحياة ليس يعروها حمام

    It is shade, and it is light and guidance,

    and a life untouched by death.

  11. قلد العلم ولا تعدل به

    وله ألق قيادك والزمام

    Follow knowledge, and hold nothing equal to it;

    and surrender to it your reins and bridle.

  12. نعمك القائد للخير الذي

    هو ميراث النبيين الكرام

    What an excellent guide to goodness is that which

    is the legacy of the noble prophets!

  13. عروة ما مثلها من عروة

    مالها قط انفصام وانخرام

    A handhold like no other handhold,

    never subject to breaking or rupture.

  14. واعلم أن العلم ما تعمل به

    لا بما ترويه ذاك الكلام

    And know that knowledge is what you act upon,

    not what you recount—that is talk.

  15. إنما العلم نهو الخشية كن

    خاشيا ربك حقا يا غلامد

    Knowledge is nothing but reverent fear; be

    truly in awe of your Lord, O lad.

  16. رب وفقنا وسددنا وخذ

    بنواصينا إلى أعلى مقام

    Lord, grant us success, guide us aright, and take us

    by our forelocks to the highest station.

  17. واختم العمر بخير وقنا

    كل سوء وبلاء ياسلام

    And end our lives in goodness, and shield us from

    every evil and affliction, O Peace.

  18. واعمر القطر بوال عادل

    يبسط العدل ويقهر للطغام

    And make the land flourish under a just ruler

    who spreads justice and subdues the rabble,

  19. بالنبي المصطفى خير الورى

    أحمد المبعوث رحمه للأنام

    by the chosen Prophet, the best of creation,

    Ahmad, sent as a mercy to humankind.

  20. صلوات الله تغشاه مع

    آله والصحب دأبا والسلام

    May God's blessings enfold him, together with

    his family and companions, unceasingly—and peace upon them.

  21. ولربي الحمد حمدا طيبا

    وكثير عدد النعم الجسام

    And to my Lord be praise—pure praise,

    and abundant, as numerous as His immense blessings.
