1. ألا يا ابن العفيف يا

    شهاب الدين يا أحمد

    Hear, O son of al-Afif, O

    Shihab al-Din, O Ahmad!

  2. لما قدر عليك إلا

    له أشكر وأحمد

    For what has been decreed for you—only

    To Him give thanks and praise.

  3. تأدب فالأدب بالعبيد

    أليق وأحمد

    Show good manners, for good manners in servants

    Are more fitting and more praiseworthy.

  4. وسلم للقضا والقدر

    تؤجر وتحمد

    And submit to decree and destiny:

    You will be rewarded and praised.

  5. وفوض بل وسلم تكن مؤمن ومسلم

    وكن عالم معلم

    And entrust your affairs—rather, submit—and you will be a believer and a Muslim.

    And be a learned teacher.

  6. وكن حامد وشاكر

    لرب العرش الأمجد

    And be one who praises and gives thanks

    To the most glorious Lord of the Throne,

  7. على ما مر أوطا

    ب كي تدعى محمد

    For whatever is bitter or sweet,

    So that you may be called Muhammad.

  8. ألا يا أحمد لا

    تحمل بالمكاتيب

    Hear, O Ahmad, do not

    Burden yourself with written decrees,

  9. فإن أهل التحمال

    بالمقضى متاعيب

    For those who burden themselves

    With what is decreed are weary.

  10. وذي الدنيا وأحوا

    لها أشيا أعاجيب

    And this world and its conditions

    Are things most wondrous.

  11. لقد فاز الذي من

    عجائبها أشيا أعاجيب

    Truly, successful is the one who, from

    Its wonders—wondrous things—

  12. لقد فاز الذي من

    عجائبها تزود

    Truly, successful is the one who, from

    Its wonders takes provisions.

  13. تزود بالتذكر وفيها بالتفكر

    وعنها بالتصبر

    Take provisions through remembrance, and in it through reflection,

    And withdraw from it through patient restraint.

  14. ألا يا بخت من قد

    زهد فيها وزهد

    Ah, how fortunate is the one who has

    Renounced it and encouraged renunciation,

  15. وجانبها

    ولله بالطاعة تعبد

    And kept apart from it,

    And worshipped God in obedience.

  16. وقل يا رب يا رب

    هب لي الاستقامه

    And say: O Lord, O Lord,

    Grant me uprightness.

  17. فإن الاستقامه

    لنا أعظم كرامه

    For uprightness

    Is our greatest honor.

  18. بها نيل السعادا

    ت في دار المقامه

    Through it, happiness is attained

    In the abode of lasting dwelling.

  19. نجاور للنبي المصطفى

    الهادي محمد

    We dwell beside the chosen Prophet,

    The guide, Muhammad.

  20. وكن تايب وآيب وكن راغب وراهب

    إلى الرحمن ذاهب

    And be repentant and returning; be hopeful and fearful,

    Journeying toward the All-Merciful.

  21. إلا لاخاب من يقصد

    الرب الممجد

    Surely, no one fails who seeks

    The glorified Lord.

  22. يقع له كل مطلو

    ب في الدنيا وفي غد

    All he seeks comes to him

    In this world and tomorrow.

  23. وكن ذا صدر مشرو

    ح ذا قلب منور

    And be one whose breast is opened wide,

    One whose heart is illumined,

  24. سليم من جميع الدنس

    طاهر مطهر

    Sound, free from every stain,

    Pure and purified,

  25. صحيح صالح أبيض

    أجرد ويظهر

    Healthy, righteous, white,

    Bare and manifest,

  26. بذكرالله معمور

    عن غيره تجرد

    Filled with the remembrance of God,

    Stripped of all besides Him,

  27. ترك كل الخلائق قطع كل العلائق

    تحقق بالحقائق

    Forsaking every creature, severing every attachment,

    Attaining realization of the truths.

  28. عسى تحظى بذا القلب

    كي نسعد ونرشد

    May you be blessed with such a heart,

    So that we may be happy and rightly guided

  29. في الدنيا وفي يوم

    به الأعضاء تشهد

    In this world and on the day

    When the limbs bear witness.

  30. ونطلب كلنا ربنا

    حسن الختام

    And we all ask our Lord

    For a good ending,

  31. ويرزقنا اتباع

    النبي خير الأنام

    And that He grant us to follow

    The Prophet, the best of humankind,

  32. ويجمعنا والاحبا

    ب في دار السلام

    And gather us with our loved ones

    In the Abode of Peace.

  33. ألا يافوز من هو

    بها أمسى مخلد

    Ah, how triumphant is the one who

    Has come to abide there forever!

  34. عسى نظره من الله بها نبلغ رضا الله

    ولا ننظر سوى الله

    May a glance from God bring us to God's good pleasure,

    And may we look to none but God.

  35. ففضل الله واسع

    وجوده ليس ينفد

    For God's bounty is vast,

    And His generosity never runs out.

  36. تعالى عالي الشا

    ن في مجده تفرد

    Exalted is He, lofty in rank;

    In His glory He stands alone.

  37. بجاه المصطفى خير

    خلق الله أجمع

    By the rank of the chosen one, the best

    Of all God's creation,

  38. غدا يوم القيامه

    لكل الناس يشفع

    Tomorrow, on the Day of Resurrection,

    He will intercede for all people.

  39. عليه الله صلى

    وسلم ما تشعشع

    May God bless him

    And grant him peace, so long as there shines

  40. قرأ وناح قرى

    على غصن وغرد

    [Unclear word], and [unclear word] coos

    Upon a branch and sings.

  41. مع الآل الكرام والأصحاب العظام

    تردد بالدوام

    With the noble family and the great companions,

    Repeated continually.

  42. ونختمها بجمد

    كثير ماله حد

    And we conclude it with praise,

    Abundant and without limit,

  43. لرب قد حبانا

    بنعمى ليس تعتد

    For a Lord who has favored us

    With blessings beyond counting.
