تبلج بِروح اليَأس أَو روحة الغِنى

تبلج بِروح اليَأس أَو روحة الغِنى

أَو الصدق لي في الوَعد أَو طَلَب العُذر

أَو الصدق لي في الوَعد أَو طَلَب العُذر

Shine forth with the relief of despair or the respite of wealth,

The spirit of despair or the soul of wealth glimmers,

or with truthfulness in your promise to me, or a request to be excused.

Or truthfulness in my promise or seeking pardon,

فَما لي تُقى يَحيى وَلا حلم يوسف

فَما لي تُقى يَحيى وَلا حلم يوسف

وَلا صَبر أَيوب وَلا مُدةَ الخَضرِ

وَلا صَبر أَيوب وَلا مُدةَ الخَضرِ

For I have neither Yahya’s piety nor Yusuf’s forbearance,

Yet I have neither Yahya's piety, nor Joseph's dream,

nor Ayyub’s patience nor al-Khidr’s lifespan.

Nor Job's patience, nor the life of Al-Khidr.
