My eye lay sleepless for love of a bride,

A young girl among beauties, not aloof.

She bewitched me with darkness and light,

When she appeared to me like ivory in ebony.

From her two eyes she meets the darkness

With a beam resembling the radiance of suns.

    Coquettish, short whenever she

Rises and walks gracefully, tall when seated.

She never ceases to perform full ablutions and free

Every limb of hers from defilement.

Her custom at the hour of purification is to bury ambergris,

    Moist, in dry embalming spices.
