قَد تَوقَعَت في الظَلام طُروقه
I wish I knew what kept a beloved from my sight;
Would that I knew why sleep avoids my eyes,
My eyes had awaited his nighttime visit in the darkness.
When my beloved’s splendor shone in darkness!
باتَspent the night قَلبيmy heart المشوقyearning يَخلطmingling فيهِconcerning him

ظَنَّ غَيري بِظَنّ أَم شَقيقه
My yearning heart spent the night mingling, concerning him,
My longing heart confused within me lies.
Another's suspicion with that of his brother's mother.
Does he love one not me? No. It’s his likeness!
