رَيحانة في اِصفرار مُهديها
شَبهتهاI likened it بَعدَafter فكرةٍreflection فيهاon it
شَبهتها بَعدَ فكرةٍ فيها
A sprig of basil, pale as its giver—
after pondering it, I likened it
أَحبةlovers لَمdid not تَصخlisten لِعاذلهاto their reproacher
أَحبة لَم تَصخ لِعاذلها
تسُدُّthey stop up آذانِهاtheir ears بِأَيديهاwith their hands
تسُدُّ آذانِها بِأَيديها
to lovers who would not heed their reproacher,
stopping their ears with their hands.
