A radiant one, from whom dawn draws nourishment, upon
The morning dew feeds his beauty,
a white-blazed steed whose friskiness has enhanced his beauty.
Making the handsome one handsomer.

تَحسَبُ لَيلاً وَوَجهَهُ شفقُهُ
Black-coated, his white blaze dazzles the eyes;
His eyes are dark when night falls,
you would think him night, and his face its twilight.
You'd think it was still night though dawn lit his face.

Three of his features are long, just as
Three marks are long on him,
three are short; his mouth's corner adorns him.
Three short, marked by his cheek stripe,

With a gray tuft that deepens his blackness,
An old white forelock has fed on his brow,
and a hoof whose blue remains richly saturated.
His hoof remains sated with blueness.

When his gaze rises toward a goal,
If his gaze shifts to the faraway,
his gallop brings its distant reach close to him.
He quickens the slow to a canter.

He is like the wind when you release him,
You'd think him the wind when it sends him away
or lightning's flash when his full gallop appears.
Or lightning's flash when his shoulder blades appear.

If on race day his rival outstripped him at first,
his Dāhis, he would come away having won the prize.
He'd overtake him and gain the prize of the run.

He glides, as if weary, beneath his rider,
He flows like a river beneath his rider
and at times his swift trot sends him flying.
Then sometimes his neck makes him take to the air.

You'd think him an arrow alongside its notch
his darting passage outruns the eyes' glance.
Outstripping the glances of eyes in its smoothness.

Loud the ring of the bells on his bridle.
