    O banana stalk, like cushions,

My longing to meet you has grown; be gentle.

    تجد لك قلبه أبداً موافق

    And generously honor the promises of a faithful youth;

You will find his heart forever in accord with you.

And do not refuse union with your lovesick lover,

And restore to him a heart that has fled into you.

How long will you strut like this, aloft

Upon the boughs, hanging among the leaves?

And to the beholder you have a sick person's hue,

Yet your lively flavor is delightful.

    فهل مرّت عليك أمواس حالق

    I find you a smooth little thing in every state;

Have a barber's razors, then, passed over you?

You were curled upon the boughs while growing,

In a garden whose fragrance delighted many who breathed it in.

Ah, how fortunate is a servant near you,

Even if he has not gained a dāniq of wealth.

The banana's little heart has gone toward the rain,

And my heart steals its pulp for everyone.

You are my heart's captor in the markets,

And it races toward you with longing.

I wonder, O rain, is a thirsty man quenched by you,

Who has begun to show his love for you, and is sincere?

Ah, may no servant be disappointed who seeks in you

Little bananas, while my eye gazes there.

And by your worth, no man of sense would bar

Someone like me from you; rather, that fellow is a braying ass.
