بابُ النَّدى عِندَهُم مُرتَجُ

Time has lodged me among a people

Time has joined me with a group

Whose gate of generosity is shut.

Whose door of bounty is ever-open

دارُهُمُ الدُّنيا لأَنّا بِها

دارُهُمُ الدُّنيا لأَنّا بِها

نَدخُلُ صِفراً وَكَذا نَخرُجُ

نَدخُلُ صِفراً وَكَذا نَخرُجُ

Their house is the world, for into it

Their abode is this world, for we

We enter empty-handed, and likewise leave.

Enter it empty and likewise depart
