The breeze of union with you blew before dawn,

The morning breeze of your presence blew,

In gardens of longing within my heart.

In the gardens of longing within my heart,

فاهتزّ غصن العقل من طرب

فاهتزّ غصن العقل من طرب

وتناثرت درراً من الحب

وتناثرت درراً من الحب

So the branch of the intellect swayed with rapture,

So the branch of reason shook with joy,

And pearls of love were scattered.

And pearls of love scattered about.

وأتت خيول الهجر شامخة

وأتت خيول الهجر شامخة

مطرودة بعساكر الحجب

مطرودة بعساكر الحجب

And the steeds of separation came, proud,

And the horses of separation came proudly,

Driven away by the armies of veils.

Chased by the armies of the veil,

وبقيت لاشيئا أعاينه

وبقيت لاشيئا أعاينه

الاّ حسبت بأنه ربى

الاّ حسبت بأنه ربى

And I remained: nothing did I behold

And I was left with nothing that my eyes could see,

Without thinking it was my Lord.

Except I thought that He was my Lord.
