رضيتI am content منfrom الدنياthis world بقوتwith food to live on وشملةand a cloak
وشربةand a drink of ماءwater كوزهits jug متكسّرcracked
I am content with food and a cloak from this world,
I am content in this life with food and clothing,
and a drink of water from a cracked jug.
And a cup of water though the cup be cracked.
فقلso tell لبنىto the sons of الدنياthe world اعزلواdepose (you plural) منwhomever أردتمyou wish
وولّواand appoint (you plural) وخلونيand leave me منfrom البعدthe distance أنظرI watch
So tell the world's sons: depose whomever you wish,
So say to the masters of the world, take away whatever you wish,
and appoint rulers, and leave me to watch from afar.
Turn your backs and leave me be, from afar I watch.
فماfor neither ملِكthe king of الدنياthe world اعزلواset aside (you plural) خراجهاits tribute
إليهto him ولاnor ذاكthat الأميرprince المؤمّرappointed to command
For neither the king of the world—set aside its tribute
For the kingdom of this world, take away its taxes
for him—nor that appointed prince
To its master, nor that commander adorned.
بأهنأany happier منىthan me عيشةin life لوif عرفتمyou knew

ولكنbut أسيرthe captive of الحرصgreed عنto; regarding ذاكthat أعورone-eyed; figuratively blind
has a happier life than I, if you only knew;
I live more happily than you, if only you knew,
but the captive of greed is blind to that.
But the greedy man is blind to this.
