أقام رجالاً في معارجه ملكاً

أقام رجالاً في معارجه ملكاً

وأقعد قوماً في غوايتهم هلكا

As sovereign, He raised men upon His paths of ascent,

A king he made of men who climbed his heights,

and left others seated in their delusion, doomed.

And brought a people ruin in their straying;

نعوذ بك اللهم من شر فتنة

نعوذ بك اللهم من شر فتنة

تطوق من حلت به عيشة ضنكا

تطوق من حلت به عيشة ضنكا

We seek refuge in You, O God, from the evil of a trial

From evil of sedition, God, protect us!

that wraps whoever it befalls in a life of hardship.

For he whom meager living once beset

رجعنا إليك الآن فاقبل رجوعنا

رجعنا إليك الآن فاقبل رجوعنا

وقلب قلوباً طال إعراضها عنكا

وقلب قلوباً طال إعراضها عنكا

We have returned to You now, so accept our return,

Is fettered now. To You we turn again;

and turn hearts that have long turned away from You.

Turn back the hearts that long from You were weaned!

فإن أنت لم تبد سقام نفوسنا

فإن أنت لم تبد سقام نفوسنا

وتشفي عماياها إذاً فلمن يشكا

وتشفي عماياها إذاً فلمن يشكا

For if You do not dispel the sickness of our souls

For if You will not heal our spirits' ills

and heal their blindness, to whom, then, can complaint be made?

And cure their blindness, unto whom complain?

فقد آثرت نفسي لقاك وقطعت

فقد آثرت نفسي لقاك وقطعت

عليك جفوني من مدامعها سلكا

عليك جفوني من مدامعها سلكا

For my soul has preferred meeting You, and there has been cut

I chose my soul to meet You, and I cut

for You, by my eyelids, a thread from their tears.

From my eyes' springs a channel to YourDomain.
