وَطَرْفُهand his eye مُرتَقِبٌwatchful للطريقtoward the road
وَطَرْفُه مُرتَقِبٌ للطريق
Only an hour remains until midnight;
Only an hour remained until the midpoint,
its eye watches the road expectantly.
And his eye kept watch on the road.
أَقْسمَhe swore لاnot يَطرُقhe comes knocking حتىuntil يَرَىhe sees
أَقْسمَ لا يَطرُق حتى يَرَى
صديقةًa female friend معشوقةًbeloved معwith صَدِيقْa male friend
صديقةً معشوقةً مع صَدِيقْ
It swore it would not come knocking until it saw
He swore not to come knocking until he saw
your friend—the man you love—with a friend.
