ويُعدىand he grants aid علىagainst جورthe injustice of الزِّمانِTime وعسْفهand its oppression
He gives generously despite the nights’ stinginess and miserliness,
He bestows generously despite the stinginess of nights,
And grants aid against Time’s injustice and oppression.
And transgresses against the tyranny and aggression of time.
فللفقرِso for poverty منfrom آلائهhis bounties طرفُthe striking of طرفهits eye
وللدهرِand for Time منfrom آرائهhis counsels صِرفُthe pure essence of صَرْفهrepelling it
His bounties strike poverty’s eye,
So from his bounties the poor get a bit here and there,
And his counsels utterly repel Time.
And from his principles fate gets a reversal of its reversal.

He governs a kingdom that has remained ordered through him,
He manages a kingdom whose perfection is flawless,
Like a necklace whose beauty its lovely description enhances.
Like a necklace whose beauty is enhanced by its description.

He has a mind like lightning in brilliance and speed;
His mind is like lightning in brightness and speed,
Were it to flash, every eye would perish from its blinding sweep.
So if it shined it would destroy every eye with its snatching.

Through it he sees what is in the soul before it is mentioned,
He sees what is in the soul before mentioning it,
And what lies behind the veil of the unseen before it is revealed.
And behind the veil of the unseen before unveiling it.

And mouths envy nothing but his reed pen:
And mouths envy nothing but his pasturing,
It vies with them in kissing the palm of his hand.
Which cramps them in kissing the palm of his hand.

He inscribes what brings the sick man his cure,
He dictates what the ailing will meet with recovery,
And writes what brings the enemy his death.
And records what the enemy will meet with his demise.

On the paper he finely traces a richly patterned garden,
He nods off on parchment an abundant garden,
With fruit we nearly rose to pluck.
With fruits like pearls we stand to pluck.
