ولما مررتُ بدارِ الحبيب

ولما مررتُ بدارِ الحبيب

وقد خابَ من ساكنيها ظُنوني

وقد خابَ من ساكنيها ظُنوني

And when I passed by the beloved's house,

with my hopes in its dwellers already dashed,

حَطَتُ همومَ جُفُونِي بها

حَطَتُ همومَ جُفُونِي بها

لأَنَّ الدموعَ همُومُ الجُفُون

لأَنَّ الدموعَ همُومُ الجُفُون

I laid down my eyelids' burdens there,

for tears are the burdens of eyelids.
