وفتاةٍ ما واصلتْنِيَ إِلاَّ

بعجزَيْن في رداءٍ وكاسِ

And a maiden who granted me union only

A girl reached me only

through two weaknesses, in a cloak and a cup.

Through two weaknesses in a cloak and a cup

أَبْرزَتْها هاتِيك بعد خِباءٍ

أَبْرزَتْها هاتِيك بعد خِباءٍ

وأَطاعتْ بتلك بعد شِماسِ

وأَطاعتْ بتلك بعد شِماسِ

That one revealed her after seclusion,

She revealed those after concealment

and through the other she yielded after defiance.

And obeyed with those after defiance

فبما أَسْدَتَا إِليّ هَوِيتُ العَجْزَ

فبما أَسْدَتَا إِليّ هَوِيتُ العَجْزَ

حتى تركتُ هجْو الناسِ

حتى تركتُ هجْو الناسِ

For what those two bestowed on me, I came to love weakness,

So with what they gave me, I loved weakness

until I gave up satirizing people.
