His glances have let fly,
His cheek has cast arrows,
and his figure is a straighter arrow.
And his figure is perfectly upright.

O band of lovers, do not
O company of lovers! Do not
cast yourselves, with your own hands, toward
Throw yourselves to
هَذَاthis الغَزَالِthe gazelle الأَحوَرِdark-eyed
بِلَحظِهِwith his glance كَمhow greatly يَسحُرِhe bewitches
this dark-eyed gazelle.
This charming gazelle.
With his glance, how he bewitches!
With his glance, how he enchants!
وَعَنand from وِصَالِيunion with me يَنفُرِhe shies away
لأَنَّهُbecause he is رِيمُwhite gazelle الفَلاَthe wilderness
And from union with me he shies away,
And from my union he flees,
for he is a white gazelle of the wilderness.
For he is a fawn of the meadows.
بَدرٌa full moon حَلاَis sweet مَنطِقُهُhis speech
وَفِيand in الحَشَاthe breast مَشرِقُهُhis rising-place
A full moon whose speech is sweet,
His speech is a full moon,
and his rising-place is within the breast.
And in the thickets he shines.
نَعمyes نَعمyes نَعشَقُهُwe love him

جَهراًopenly عَلَىat رأسِthe head of المَلاَthe assembly
Yes, yes, we love him,
Yes, yes, we love him
openly, before the assembled throng.
Openly at the head of the assembly.

وَكُلَّمَاand whenever مَرّhe passes حَلاَhe is lovely
He passes by me, smiling,
He passes by me smiling,
and whenever he passes, he is lovely.
And whenever he passes the crescent grows.
يَاO مَنyou who لَقَلبِيto my heart قَدindeed كَوَىseared
وَلَمand did not يَجُدgive generously لِيto me بِالدّوَاwith the remedy
O you who have seared my heart,
O you who has seared my heart
and have not granted me the remedy:
And could not find a cure for me,
إنif حَلّis permitted فِيin شَرعَthe law of الهَوَىlove
قَتلِيkilling me فَلاَthen no حَولَpower وَلاَand no
if, under love's law, it is permitted
If he settles in the law of love,
to kill me, then there is no power, nor...
Kill me, for there is no might nor power but God's.
