He grows light with joy when his fingertips pour forth,

While clouds are called heavy when they pour down.

Radiant, he conceals his favors out of generosity,

And boldly brandishes the bright swords with proverbial renown.

So praise spreads abroad the favors he has concealed,

And the blows conceal India's bright blades in skulls.

The protected and the oppressed seek refuge in his exalted station,

Like water, where lion and lamb both come to drink.

And the wealthy and the destitute long for his bounty,

Like wine, suited to the sober and the drunk.

He has a resolve blazing like the flash of lightning,

Bringing from his victory a cloud of pouring rain.

Were it not for the lucky stars bound to his ambition,

I would have thought it reached as far as Saturn.
