أَبَتْ ذَلِكَ الْخَمْسُ والأَرْبَعونا

Whenever I move lightly as in the days of youth,

When I lighten up, as in the days of youth,

My forty-five years will not allow it.

Forty five refuses that,

وَما ثَقُلَتْ كِبَراً وَطْأَتي

وَما ثَقُلَتْ كِبَراً وَطْأَتي

وَلَكِنْ أجُرُّ وَرائي السِّنينا

وَلَكِنْ أجُرُّ وَرائي السِّنينا

My tread has not grown heavy from old age,

My weight has not become heavy with old age,

But I drag the years behind me.

But I drag behind me the years.
