من البركةِ الحسناءِ شكلاً ومنظرا
My two friends, have you given your gaze its due
My beloved, have we given the moment its due
in the lovely pool’s form and appearance?
Of the blessed beauty, in shape and sight

من الرنجِ المفروكِ ثوباً منشرا
When it meets the breeze’s first breath, you would think it
When the first breeze touches, you'd think it
a spread-out garment of crumpled ranj cloth.
A garment of scattered elegance spread open

فأبقتْ مثالاً فوقها قد تسطرا
As though nets had been cast upon its surfaces,
As if nets were cast in her depths
leaving a pattern traced in lines upon it.
Leaving an imprint above as lines drawn

معاطفُ ثوبي راقصٍ قد تكسرا
And the passing east wind leaves it like the bending
And the tides of acceptance leave it as it bent
folds of a dancer’s two robes as he sways.
Like the folds of my dancing robe broken open
