أَذا بَرَدٌ تَحَدَّرَ مِنْ غَمامٍ

أَذا بَرَدٌ تَحَدَّرَ مِنْ غَمامٍ

عَلَيْنا أَمْ تَناثَرَتِ النجومُ

عَلَيْنا أَمْ تَناثَرَتِ النجومُ

Is this hail that has descended from a cloud

When cold rain falls from clouds above,

upon us, or have the stars scattered?

Or shooting stars descend in showers of love,

إِذا أَتَتِ السَّماءُ بِمِثْلِ هذا

إِذا أَتَتِ السَّماءُ بِمِثْلِ هذا

فما بالُ الْقِيامَةِ لا تَقُومُ

فما بالُ الْقِيامَةِ لا تَقُومُ

If the sky has brought forth the like of this,

If heaven can create such wonders as these,

then why does the Resurrection not come to pass?

Why does not resurrection come with ease?

وَإِلاَّ فَهْيَ شُهْبٌ ثاقِباتٌ

وَإِلاَّ فَهْيَ شُهْبٌ ثاقِباتٌ

وَكُلُّ النَّاسِ شَيْطانٌ رَجيمُ

وَكُلُّ النَّاسِ شَيْطانٌ رَجيمُ

And if not, then they are piercing meteors,

But if they're just illusive meteors we see,

and all mankind is an accursed devil.

Then all mankind's a cursed devilry.
