I love you, but I keep it hidden.

And a lover's heart is as you know.

And how can I complain of love's burning pangs

when you neither pity nor show mercy?

    Thus, without sin or misstep,

    this Muslim man is slain.

If you do not approve of killing a man,

where does this blood on your cheek come from?

He cannot be trusted with a life

who has a keen sword in his eye.

It is enough for lovers who are afflicted

with love that I am one of them.
