تعلمlearn السقمlanguor منfrom جسميmy body وتستبقand vie with one another
And one with a marked cheek—his eyes have never ceased
The teacher of pain, his eyes still
Learning languor from my body and vying with one another.
Teach sickness to my body and outpace it
ليتif only العواذلthe reproachers فيfor حبيmy love لهfor him وجدواthey felt
وجديmy passion بهfor him وكماand just as لاقيتI suffered فيهon his account لقواthey suffered
If only those who chide me for loving him had felt
If only lovers found passion for him in my love
My passion for him, and suffered as I have suffered for him.
And felt for him as I have felt and encountered
قبلتهI kissed him ولناand for us منfrom ليلnight طرتهhis forelock سترٌa veil
فنمthen tattled بناabout us منfrom وجههhis face فلقdawn
I kissed him, while the night of his forelock was our veil;
I kissed him though the night concealed us
But the dawn from his face betrayed us.
And let us sleep, veiling his face
واللهby God لولاwere it not for ارتشافيmy sipping ماءwater ريقهhis saliva
لكنتthen I would have been بالنارin the fire منfrom خديهhis two cheeks أحترقI burn
By God, had I not sipped the water of his saliva,
By God, if not for sipping his saliva
I would have burned in the fire from his cheeks.
I'd have burned from his cheeks with fire
