وبالشَمع المُنير وَباليَراع

وبالشَمع المُنير وَباليَراع

A circumcision, with a lesson drawn from the vine,

and from the shining candle and the reed pen.

جرى دمُه لنا شَفَقاً مُذاباُ

جرى دمُه لنا شَفَقاً مُذاباُ

لدى بدرٍ تَلفَّع بِالشُعاع

لدى بدرٍ تَلفَّع بِالشُعاع

His blood flowed before us like molten sunset glow,

beside a full moon wrapped in rays.

أتى ظَبياً وأبدى صبر لَيثٍ

أتى ظَبياً وأبدى صبر لَيثٍ

بِضَنكٍ فيه ذُمَّ أخو الدِفاع

بِضَنكٍ فيه ذُمَّ أخو الدِفاع

He came as a gazelle and showed a lion's endurance,

in hardship where a defender was put to shame.
