متىwhen يطلعُrises البدرُthe full moon منfrom أفقهِits horizon
متى يطلعُ البدرُ من أفقهِ
متىwhen قفلُthe lock حابسهِof his jailer يَسلُسُyields
متى قفلُ حابسهِ يَسلُسُ

تَخُطُّtraces الصُحونَthe courtyards ولاand does not تلْمَسُtouch
تَخُطُّ الصُحونَ ولا تلْمَسُ

So we spent the night, with nothing but an embrace
So we stayed awake while none other
And the robe of darkness for clothing.

While the gathering was fragrant with his scent
