رَكِبنا إليها السيلَ في الليلِ مقبلاً

رَكِبنا إليها السيلَ في الليلِ مقبلاً

ولا يَركَبُ الأهوالَ إلاّ المُخاطِرْ

ولا يَركَبُ الأهوالَ إلاّ المُخاطِرْ

We rode the oncoming torrent toward her in the night.

We rode the floods to her that night, advancing

And none rides into terrors but the risk-taker.

And none rides perils, saving daring men.

تعافُ وتأبى أن تسامَ دنيةً

تعافُ وتأبى أن تسامَ دنيةً

وفي الجهلِ إنْ لم ينفعِ الحلمُ زاجرْ

وفي الجهلِ إنْ لم ينفعِ الحلمُ زاجرْ

She disdains and refuses to be subjected to indignity.

She refuses, disdains to be lowly and humble

And in rashness, if forbearance does not avail, lies a deterrent.

And if, in ignorance, dreams cannot help or deter.
