فَوِّقْ سِهامَكَ وارمِ النّجمَ عن عُرُضٍ

فَوِّقْ سِهامَكَ وارمِ النّجمَ عن عُرُضٍ

فلستَ أوَّلَ مَغرورٍ من الظَّنَنِ

فلستَ أوَّلَ مَغرورٍ من الظَّنَنِ

Nock your arrows and shoot at the star at random;

Aim your arrows high and shoot for the stars

For you are not the first to be deceived by conjecture.

You're not the first fool led astray by hope

وانحتْ بفأسِكَ في صماءَ شاهقةٍ

وانحتْ بفأسِكَ في صماءَ شاهقةٍ

لن تَنْحَتِ الفاسُ ما أعْيا على الزّمَنِ

لن تَنْحَتِ الفاسُ ما أعْيا على الزّمَنِ

And hew with your axe into a towering, solid rock;

Carve with your axe through impenetrable rock

The axe will not hew what has defied time.

Your axe won't sculpt what time cannot erode
