حللتُI settled بأَعلىupon the highest شاهقٍlofty peak متمنعٍunassailable
فلستُso I am not أُبالىconcerned الدهرَever مَنْwho حلَّsettled أَسفَلَهbelow it
I have settled upon the highest, unassailable peak,
I climbed the highest, inaccessible peak,
so I care not, ever, who has settled below it.
I care not what fate befalls those below.
وانand indeed الذيthe one whom أَتعَبتُهI wearied بَعداوتيwith my enmity
كَعَودٍlike an old camel علىduring طولِthe length of السُّرىnight travel ذَمَّreviled محمَلَهits load
And the one I have wearied by my enmity
He whom I wearied with my enmity,
is like an old camel that, during long night travel, cursed its load.
Bears a burden like a staff too long to carry.
ولاand not يستطيعcan العودُthe old camel حلَّunfasten رحالِهits packs
اذاif لمnot يعاونْهُhelps it علىwith الحلِّunfastening أَرقلُهits driver (meaning uncertain)
The old camel cannot unfasten its packs
The staff cannot be unloaded
if its driver does not help it undo them.
Unless the hand that holds it helps set it down.
كأَنىas though I were علىabove هامِthe heads of الرجالِmen غَمامةٌa cloud

It is as though I were a cloud above men's heads,
Like a cloud over the heads of men
looking down upon them, crowned with lightning.
Flashing lightening at them from its crown.
