أَنكَرَتْ مُقْلَتُهُ سَفْكَ دَمي

أَنكَرَتْ مُقْلَتُهُ سَفْكَ دَمي

وَعَلا وَجنَتَهُ فَاِعتَرَفَتْ

وَعَلا وَجنَتَهُ فَاِعتَرَفَتْ

His eye denied shedding my blood;

His eyelids denied shedding my blood

yet my blood rose upon his cheek, and his cheek confessed.

And his cheeks blushed, so he confessed

لا تَخالوا خَالَهُ في خَدّهِ

لا تَخالوا خَالَهُ في خَدّهِ

قَطْرَةً مِن دَمِ جَفْني نَطَفَتْ

قَطْرَةً مِن دَمِ جَفْني نَطَفَتْ

Do not suppose the mole on his cheek

Do not think the mole on his cheek

a drop of blood that trickled from my eyelid.

Is a drop of blood from my eyelids that dripped

ذاكَ مِن نارِ فُؤادي جَذْوَةٌ

ذاكَ مِن نارِ فُؤادي جَذْوَةٌ

فيهِ ساخَتْ وَاِنْطَفَتْ ثُمَّ طَفَتْ

فيهِ ساخَتْ وَاِنْطَفَتْ ثُمَّ طَفَتْ

That is an ember from the fire of my heart,

It is but an ember from my heart's fire

which sank into his cheek, went out, then floated to the surface.

In which it was forged and kindled then erupted
